This Android smartphone borrows the best feature of the iPhone 14 Pro
If you want to enjoy the benefits of the dynamic island of the iPhone 14 Pro, but do not want to pay for expensive Apple phones, the new Realme smartphone may be the option you are looking for.
Dynamic Island is a new notification system used by the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, and which replaces the smartphone notch. It combines hardware like the iPhone’s camera and depth sensor with software updates to create a smart notification bar that communicates important information in a concise yet informative and engaging way, while hiding phone notches.
When you receive a notification, the island will come to life to notify you of an upcoming flight, text message, or set alarm, among other things. Dynamic Island was one of the phone’s standout features that we highlighted in our iPhone 14 Pro review, so it’s no wonder other device makers would like to include it.
The Realme C55 just debuted in Indonesia with its own version of Dynamic Island – or Mini Capsule to use Realme’s name, but there’s no hiding the inspiration for this pill-shaped strap (by GSMArena (opens in a new tab)).
However, it looks like the Mini Capsule will be a bit more limited than Dynamic Island. While it doesn’t seem capable of displaying such a wide variety of alerts, the Mini Capsule will let you know when the Realme C55 is running low, what your data usage is and how many steps you take in a day.
Moreover, for now Realme C55 is only available in Indonesia. But Francis Wong – general manager of the company’s European arm – gave up tweet (opens in a new tab) saying it would be “coming soon” in Europe.
There’s no word yet on a wider world launch – as a rough guide, the price of the phone in Indonesia is around $160 / £140 / AU$245, although we doubt it would be priced as cheaply in Western markets – but we hope other phones coming soon will release Dynamic Island. This is one of the most innovative features of Apple smartphones in years and we will not be disappointed when it appears on as many rivals as possible.
If you don’t want to wait to get your hands on the Realme C55, you can try an app like DynamicSpot on your Android phone, which offers many features like Dynamic Island, albeit with some limitations.
