Six Final Fantasy games will be re-released for the 35th anniversary
Originally only available on PC and mobile, Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster will debut on PS4 and Nintendo Switch in spring 2023 to celebrate the first game’s 35th anniversary.
Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster features the first six games in this vast series, each reworked to harness the power of modern machines. In addition to improving the resolution of decades-old graphics, the soundtrack has been changed and the user interface has been modernized.
It wouldn’t be a bad way to see how the series has evolved before playing Final Fantasy 16 when it will launch on June 22, 2023
Most pre-orders for both the standard PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions are currently sold out (opens in a new tab), although limited edition collector’s box copies still exist. However, they will cost £244.99 / $298 / AU$444.36. It is plot money for a revived game from the 80s.

Back kick
If you purchase the Collector’s Edition, you’ll receive “a vinyl record set featuring newly arranged music from the game, a specially compiled artbook featuring beautiful pixelated character art and 8 stylized pixelated character figures, plus an extra lenticular case for the game pack.”
Its popularity speaks for itself. Despite the high prices, the PS4 and Nintendo Switch Standard Editions appear to have sold out in just over a day, as has the PS4 Collector’s Edition. You still have time to pick up a copy of the Collector’s Edition for your Switch, but you might want to act fast.
Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster is still available on Steam (opens in a new tab), but where there is no danger of running out of digital copies in the store. And since the game is available there or on PC, if the Collector’s Edition is out of reach, you can keep your fingers crossed that Square Enix will release a remaster on the PSN Store and Nintendo eShop in the future.
